Romanticism - 1790
through 19th Century.
Romanticism was a clear break from traditional literature
and poetry. It emphasized individual
expression and ignored the decorum and structure of Classic Theory. Emotive writing was taking to the extremes
with “rapture, nostalgia, horror, melancholy, or sentimentality” (294-295). It often compared and contrasted man against
nature.
