Course Name: Capstone Project

Prerequisite: Completion of at least 21 hours of coursework.

Course Description: This course, co-taught by two faculty members, is available for students who wish to complete their course of study with a capstone project.  Capstone projects may include an academic thesis, a creative project or thesis, or a portfolio project.  Students are encouraged to complete this course in a single semester, but at the discretion of the instructors may be allowed one grade of “I” (incomplete) in order to finish their project during the next semester.  This course will have a cap of eight students.  Offered every semester. (3 hour)

Evaluations: Assignments will include
·      Discussion board posts
·      Review of weekly readings
·      Live chats
·      Five-page prospectus due by the end of the first week of class
·      Capstone project

Minimum Topic Outline: The Capstone Project will begin with a minimum five-page prospectus due by the end of the first week of class.  Students should begin work on the prospectus prior to the start of class.  This prospectus will describe the project, explaining how it relates to the student’s course of study at Tiffin University, and then provide an outline and bibliography.  Capstone projects may take one of the following forms:
·      40-60 page creative writing project, such as a collection of poems, short stories, a novella, or a (screen)play, accompanied by a minimum ten page introduction explaining the nature of the project, describing similar works, explaining its original contribution to the genre or field, etc.
·      Other creative project (such as visual media) accompanied by a minimum twenty page introduction explaining the nature of the project, describing similar works, explaining its original contribution to the genre or field, etc.
·      40-60 page research project in any area of humanities study represented in the student’s coursework.
·      Portfolio project, parameters to be determined in conjunction with the faculty members.  Whatever the nature of this portfolio, it should represent a coherent, well-organized body of work focused on a topic, theme, or problem.
