Literary Theory – Marxism – 19th and 20th Century

Marxism is an approach to art and literature that evaluates the work based on its cultural significance and origin.  All works must be evaluated in their social, cultural and historical conditions, their origins must be measured by the Social, cultural and historical conditions that gave rise to them, and that art and literature are reflective of the class struggles.  The approach evaluates the origins, presentations, and responses to art in light of their cultural environment.
